Slide runner for cyclone 4402/20/2023 In all three countries, we met senior leadership, including Heads of States, Heads of Governments and Ministers to discuss next steps. Moving forward, each of these countries requires comprehensive solutions that incorporate food security, healthcare, water and sanitation, education and protection. It is now critical that the Government and development partners take the opportunity of an expected good harvest to tackle the root causes of Malawi’s vulnerability and recurrent humanitarian needs. The country’s leaders as well as ordinary people were determined to tackle long-term challenges. A generous 90 per cent of the humanitarian response plan was funded, and the response is now transitioning from relief to recovery. In Malawi, we visited Chikwawa District, which experienced massive flooding after the Cyclone. Ongoing assessments indicate the number of people in need may rise further, from 5.3 million to 6 million in both urban and rural areas during the coming months. The Zimbabwe Flash Appeal, which covers the impact of the drought, the economic crisis and Cyclone Idai, is only one quarter funded, with $75 million received out of the $294 million required. Despite the evident loss and trauma, I was struck by how people are determined to rebuild their lives, such as Kuda, a displaced woman in a camp who was running a small business rearing chickens and selling eggs to support her children. Even before the Cyclone, the country was facing a food insecurity crisis due to drought and economic crisis. In Zimbabwe we visited Chimanimani, which was one of the hardest-hit areas. The Humanitarian Response Plan calls for US$440 million, only one third of which has been funded. The initial outpouring of support to Mozambique was humbling, but much more needs to be done. Many of them will not be able to return to their homes, and it is vital that resettlement solutions for all are safe, dignified, voluntary and sustainable. They stressed the need for support to build new homes, access health services and have means to earn a living. We visited the port city of Beira, which suffered the most of Idai and where destruction is still evident, and then travelled to Dondo, where we met women, elderly and displaced people who were resettled after they lost everything. In other words, much of this year’s harvest was destroyed in what was the country’s bread basket. In Mozambique, which was affected by two consecutive cyclones, Idai and Kenneth, hunger levels are expected to rise in coming months as the cyclones wiped out more than 755,000 hectares of crops. I just returned from a trip to Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe alongside a representative from ECOSOC-HAS to see the extent of the devastation, the impact of the response and how we can best support the Governments in coming months. Vulnerability levels were also very high pre-disaster where over 5 million people needed emergency aid, and Cyclone Idai added a further 3 million. Now the international community needs to maintain this solidarity and support to meet critical emergency needs, and to help people recover and rebuild their resilience over the longer term. The assistance has saved lives and provided critical relief to millions. We deployed search and rescue teams, delivered life-saving food, and supported health, water and sanitation and protection systems.Ī lot has been achieved in the past 100 days. Within hours of the cyclone striking, UN agencies and their partners scaled up to support Government-led efforts. And in Zimbabwe, over 300 remain missing. The cyclone left a path of destruction, killing at least 1,007 people, injuring 2,300 and leaving more than 3 million people in need of life-saving assistance. June 22nd marked 100 days since Cyclone Idai wreaked havoc in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, catapulting pre-existing humanitarian needs to new levels. Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, Does not equal sign qord2/20/2023 What Is the Not Equal to Symbol in Google Sheets?.How Do You Do Does Not Equal in Google Sheets?.Does Not Equal Google Sheets – Frequently Asked Questions.Combining the Google Sheets Formula for Not Equal With Other Functions. When to Use Not Equal to in Google Sheets.Using Conditional Formatting With Not Equal To.How to Use the Google Sheets Not Equal Operator – Example. What Is the Not Equal To Google Sheets Comparison Operator?.This is the only difference between "<" and "≤". Unlike the less than sign, ≤ does not denote a strict inequality. This can also be read as meaning that the value or expression on the left hand side of the symbol can at most be equal to the value on the right, never greater. The less than or equal to sign is a symbol that indicates that the value on the left hand side of the symbol is either less than, or equal to the value on the right. If we want to denote that a can be less than or equal to b, we would use the less than or equal to sign (≤) instead. The value of a must be less than that of b. The following are valid uses of the less than sign: It indicates a strict inequality between two values specifically, the value on the left of the less than sign is smaller than the value on the right. The less than sign is the counterpart to the greater than sign. This is the only difference between ">" and "≥". This is because ≥ does not denote a strict inequality. GivenĪ can equal b, unlike the greater than sign. This can also be read as the value on the left hand side is at least equal to the value on the right. The greater than or equal to sign is a symbol that indicates that the value on the left hand side of the symbol is either greater than, or equal to the value on the right. In cases where a can also equal 4, we would use the greater than or equal to sign instead. Thus, if b were 4, a could be any value above 4, but not 4. The following are valid uses of the greater than sign:Ī must be greater than b. Greater than is a strict inequality, meaning that the value on the left of the sign must be greater than the value on the right they cannot be equal. The greater than sign is a symbol that indicates a strict inequality between two values specifically, that the value to the left of the greater than sign is larger than the value on the right. There are other, more specific inequality relations, like those below. While the above use of ≠ is true for all the cases, it doesn't tell us much other than that the expressions on either side of the symbol are not equal. The not equal to sign, also referred to as the does not equal sign, is a symbol that indicates the inequality of the values or expressions on either side of the symbol. In cases where the values are not equal, we can use a number of different inequality symbols, such as the not equal to sign. Equality (as well as inequality) is a basis for solving algebraic equations and inequalities.Īll of the above equations are true. Expressions on either side of an equals sign either have the same value, or have the same value for certain values. The equals sign, symbolized as "=" indicates equality. Although an equals sign is not technically an inequality symbol, it is discussed together with inequality symbols since it is included as part of non-strict inequalities such as greater than or equal to (≥) and less than or equal to (≤). Strict inequalities include less than () symbols, described below. Together with other mathematical symbols such as the equals sign (=), which indicates an equality relation, they are sometimes referred to as relation symbols. Inequality symbols are symbols that are used to indicate inequality relations. The eagles flew away, and the Roman in the middle, who was scrawnier than the others, raised his visor. Each deposited a Roman commando in purple and denim with glittering gold armor, sword, and shield. Halfway across the dock, three giant eagles descended in front of them. Would you care for some tea cakes to go?” I’d get back to your ship in a hurry if I were you. “It looks like the Romans have arrived to cut you off. “Oh, the map is at Fort Sumter, of course.” She pointed her butter knife toward the island across the harbor. Apparently Leo’s diversion with Buford the end table hadn’t worked-at least not for long.Īphrodite spread butter on a muffin as if she had all the time in the world. Higher up, descending rapidly, was a flying chariot pulled by pegasi. “This map,” she said, “where is it?”Ĭircling above the palmetto trees were two large eagles. And even if you survive, how will you use your reward? For war or for peace?”Īnnabeth was glad for the tablecloth, because under the table, her legs were trembling. There you will face your worst fear-the fear of every child of Athena. But as you said, Annabeth Chase, no one has ever succeeded in following the Mark of Athena to its end. At any rate, the clue you need is close by: a map of sorts, left by the children of Athena in 1861-a remembrance that will start you on your path, once you reach Rome. “And for thousands of years,” Annabeth said, “no one has managed.” The statue wants to be found, you see, but it can only be freed by the most worthy.” It’s a connection between the statue and the children of the goddess. No…I’d guess the Mark is more like a spiritual trail of bread crumbs. If she knew where her statue was, she’d simply tell you where to find it. I don’t believe Athena created the Mark consciously. “The Mark of Athena, how does it work? Is it a series of clues, or a trail set by Athena-” “But…” Annabeth tried to clear the fog from her brain. “That’s…” Annabeth wanted to say impossible, but she remembered Athena’s bitter words in Grand Central Station, the burning hatred in her eyes. Every civil war…so much bloodshed and heartbreak…has been orchestrated largely by Athena’s children.” In the meantime, they’ve been keeping alive the Greek feud with the Romans. None has succeeded in recovering the statue. Understand, though, your siblings, the children of Athena, have been searching for centuries. “It leads to a statue, doesn’t it? It leads to…to the statue.”Īphrodite smiled. Professional typist speed2/20/2023 When you’re typing, it might feel like your fingers are doing all the work, but the positioning of your head and torso can also have an impact on your WPM. The majority of modern computers include the option to switch to the layout. However, it is still largely considered the best design for fast typing, and is especially great if you suffer from repetitive strain whilst doing so. Unfortunately, by this time, the QWERTY design had already been picked up by major typewriter manufacturers and so the Dvorak layout never became mainstream. Developed in 1936 by an American psychologist, the Dvorak layout was designed to minimise finger movements in order to cause less strain and result in fewer errors. You’d think the most widely adopted keyboard style around the world would be the most efficient, but you’d be wrong. So, here are a few tips to help you get those thumbs a-tapping! However, until that day comes, we think we’ll stick to the transcribing, and for that we need speedy typists. At Take Note we’re proud to say our best typists can reach speeds of over 150WPM, which, by our estimates, means we’ll be able to start venturing into Bible production in about fourteen years. Professional typists are, of course, ever so slightly quicker than the average user. In fact, Ms Pajunas became so famous for her nimble fingers that it led to her employment at tech giant IBM, where she helped them promote their newest innovation, the electric typewriter.ħ3 years later, and, despite several advancements in technology, Stella continues to outcompete the average computer user by 175 words per minute. At that pace, it would’ve taken her just under ten years to copy out every word of the King James Bible five times quicker than the average human. In 1946, Stella Pajunas, from Cleveland, Ohio, became the fastest typist in the world, achieving an incredible speed of 216 words per minute. Just as important, balance them reasonably well against each other. When choosing hardware for MySQL, ensure good-performing components all around. Understanding the fundamental resources is important in two particular areas: choosing hardware and troubleshooting problems. If any of these is weak, erratic, or overloaded, then the database server is very likely to perform poorly. To function, a database server needs four fundamental resources: CPU, memory, disk, and network. 2: Understand the four fundamental resources Workload-profiling tools group similar queries together, allowing you to see the queries that are slow, as well as the queries that are fast but executed many times. These tools capture queries the server executes and return a table of tasks sorted by decreasing order of response time, instantly bubbling up the most expensive and time-consuming tasks to the top so that you can see where to focus your efforts. The best way to profile your workload is with a tool such as MySQL Enterprise Monitor’s query analyzer or the pt-query-digest from the Percona Toolkit. Here, time is the most important metric because when you issue a query against the server, you care very little about anything except how quickly it completes. By profiling your workload, you can expose the most expensive queries for further tuning. The best way to understand how your server spends its time is to profile the server’s workload. Here are 10 tips for getting great performance out of MySQL. Luckily, many MySQL performance issues turn out to have similar solutions, making troubleshooting and tuning MySQL a manageable task. To ensure your MySQL server hums along at top speed, providing stable and consistent performance, it is important to eliminate these mistakes, which are often obscured by some subtlety in your workload or a configuration trap. The truth is, common mistakes underlie most MySQL performance problems. As with all relational databases, MySQL can prove to be a complicated beast, one that can crawl to a halt at a moment’s notice, leaving your applications in the lurch and your business on the line. The player is given a set of survival systems that they’ve probably encountered in other games before: find food, find water. So, the first type of mystery they uncover is not a narrative one, but a systemic one. The player violently crashes on the surface of a planet they’re confused, the don’t have much narrative context, and they’re surrounded by a world that feels truly alien. The opening of Subnautica is an abrupt one. So, with that out of the way, let’s dive in! (That is the last ocean-related pun I’ll make in this essay, I promise). But if anything I’ve said piques your interest, I highly recommend you pick it up on your digital platform of choice and enjoy some of the most wonder-provoking experiences gaming has to offer. If you have no intention of playing Subnautiuca, and due to the intense thalassophobia it evokes, I can absolutely understand that, feel free to read on. I avoided wiki pages, trailers, and even other reviews of the game until I had finished it, simply because that particular rush of discovery is Subnautica’s emotional core. Even seeing screenshots of late game areas or learning about late-game craftables can take away from the exhilaration of seeing something for yourself for the first time. Being a game all about mystery, Subnautica’s experience is cheapened, though not ruined, if you lose the experience of discovering it for yourself. But what made that feeling linger? On a metatextual level, I enjoy that Subnautica had one last mystery for me to solve, and I hope that, through this essay, I can do that, because exploring Subnautica’s various mysteries has been one of my most engaging gaming experiences of the past two years.īefore I continue, I do want to give a spoiler warning of sorts. When recently starting my third playthrough of Subnautica, I was surprised to find that the sense of mystery was still present, even though I knew all the secrets of the game’s lore and the intricate details of its systems. I’ve played many games with fascinating systems to dig into, but on repeat playthroughs that mystery is gone, because I already know how they work. I’ve played many games with a mystery-focused plot, but on repeat playthroughs that mystery is gone, because I already know the answer to the mystery. *Something* about Subnautica makes me play and experience it differently from other games, even other games in its same survival-crafting-Minecraftlike genre. This has been my biggest barrier to writing about Subnautica, despite having played it for almost two years now. But the biggest mystery in Subnautica for me personally has been figuring out exactly how it evokes and maintains its sense of wonder. My favorite thing about Subnautica (2018) is that it is full of mysteries, from the backstory of the watery planet you crash land on, to the unique mechanics sets you discover, to the unmapped and objective marker-free world.
